This session will be an opportunity for the independent production sector to learn of the additional opportunities that exist with the establishment of a dedicated Irish language children's channel 'Cúla 4'. We will hear from those who are already producing award winning content for children as well as renowned children's author Máire Zepf.

Karina Feirtéar
Bainisteoir Cainéal Cúla4, TG4.
Karina has an extensive background in creative arts and media production spanning over 20 years. A Fine Art graduate, she began her career as a graphic designer - dipping her toes in all aspects of design and brand creation, across multiple platforms. She is also a qualified Primary school teacher and has further qualifications in Marketing & PR as well as the digital marketing space.
She has worked as a director, producer, and manager of the Young People’s department in TG4- working primarily on studio programmes and marketing campaigns for age groups between 0 -16yrs. She is passionate about the Irish language and engaging younger audiences in where they are at, developing ideas to inspire them to watch and enjoy using the language through fun and entertaining ways.
In her more recent role as creative manager in TG4, she oversaw the brand redesign for Cúla4- making sure that the audience was always at the forefront of the project. Now, in her recent appointment as channel manager of Cúla4- she will be responsible for implementing strategic decisions for the youth brand across multiple touchpoints.

Máire Zepf
Author
Máire Zepf has written 14 books for children, from picture books to a YA verse novel. Winner of the KPMG/CBI Children’s Book of the Year, 4 LAI Children’s Book Awards and 2 international White Ravens among many others, her books appear in 10 languages worldwide.
The Co. Down author was the first Children’s Writing Fellow for Northern Ireland, based at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at QUB (2017-19). She is Artistic Director for Quotidian – Word on the Street.

Gavin Halpin
Managing Director, Paper Owl Films
Gavin Halpin is the Managing Director of Paper Owl Films, which he co-founded in 2012.
Since graduating with a 1st class honours degree in Film and Communications from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Gavin has produced hundreds of television programmes and his experience has given him a unique perspective on the creativity, resilience, and belief it takes to create award winning content.
Gavin is a driving force in Paper Owl Films as the key business affairs contact and Executive Producer.

Ronin McCloskey
Producer/Director
Factual Producer & Director based in Belfast, producing for BBC, RTÉ & All4, working in current affairs, factual and documentary
Ronin won an IFTA in 2016 for Best Young People's Programme (My Life CBBC).

Róise Ní Bhaoill
Author
Róise Ní Bhaoill is from Ranafast in the Donegal Gaeltacht. She is the author of a series of stories for adult learners of Irish published initially by the internet publication BEO!, and (with Gordon McCoy) of the book Taisce Focal, Little stories for big people (Iontaobhas Ultach, 2007) which resulted from that series.
She co-edited Gaelic-medium education provision: Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man (Iontaobhas Ultach, 2003) and Bás in Éirinn — May You Die in Ireland (Iontaobhas Ultach, 2011).
She was editor of the quarterly Arts Research Digest during her time in England. She transcribed, translated and edited the Ulster folklore material collected by Wilhelm Doegen in the 1930s, which is the material of Ulster Gaelic Voices, Bailiúchan Doegen 1931 (Iontaobhas Ultach, 2010).
During her career with ULTACH Trust, she produced a range of material for the public on topics including placenames, folklore and the history of the Irish language. She has written and lectured on the subject of Irish in her own native county.
She has published poetry in Krino and is currently working on a collection of rhymes in Irish for young children and on a short-story collection.
